The Next big thing…

We’re always endeavoring to make the DDGC something bigger.  That can sometimes be in the form of associating with something bigger, such as our PDGA sanctioning, our participation in the NEFA Series, our partnership with the Yetter, or in the past, our status as a qualifier for USDGC, USADGC, and the MSDGC/Vibram Open.

This new association isn’t quite the same thing as those since the DDGC itself is not directly involved, but we are sharing enough key components that make cross-promotion a no-brainer.  We’ll let the words of the Next Generation Tour take it from here…

Next Generation Disc Golf is pleased to announce Latitude 64°’s title sponsorship of the 2017
Next Generation Tour Series providing over $500,000 in discs and merchandise. The sponsorship
will help support 118 tournaments around the country with the National Champion winning a car.

Competitors register to play in one of 12 qualifier tournaments across 9 regions (108 total) held
between April and June. Top finishers are invited to their respective Regional Championship held
between July and October, where, again, the top finishers are invited to a National Championship
in November in Arizona, where, amongst other groundbreaking prizes, the winner will take home
a car. The website, full schedule and registration information will be released in early February.

We started with the big idea… ‘let’s give away a car’… from there we developed a series that
not only awarded a new car but also: pays every competitor back well over 100%; offers options
for every amateur of all skills; and provides one-of-a-kind player and prize packages at our
championship tournaments. We look forward to sharing more detail the coming weeks – but it’s
critical to note without the support of Latitude 64
° none of it would be possible.” said David Feldberg, Next Generation Tour Series Director.

As the press release quoted above states, details will be forthcoming in the next couple weeks, but suffice to say that the DDGC is going to be sharing staff, course, and the weekend with this exciting event.  Stay tuned for more…

DDGC17 is coming!

We’re about ten days away from registration opening wide for DDGC17.  February 1 is the magical date when 65 spots in our 72-player field will go on sale.

What about those other seven spots, you ask?  Two are already spoken for by the FPO and MA1 winners from last year’s Eric C Yetter Champions Cup: Michelle Frazer and James O’Reilly.  Another is occupied by 2016 Thorndike Memorial (and 3X defending DDGC) champion Tyler Grady.  Two more are going to two fellows who have attended every DDGC to date since 2001: Bob Enman and Mike Connell. That leaves two more spots being held back.

The first of those will be awarded at the MDGT Winter Series event on February 26 at Dragan Field.  The details are still being worked out, but some how, some way, a player will be leaving that event with a free entry to DDGC17.  The last spot, as it has the last three years, will be awarded to the winner of the Monday Night Doubles points race.  That series begins on Monday, March 13 at 5:00 pm.

With regard to the last two spots to be awarded, they can be won by a player already registered for the tournament.  So don’t skip out on registering thinking it will disqualify you from a free entry.  If a previously registered player wins one of these spots, they will be refunded on their original entry and a spot will be opened up, presumably to the top person on the waitlist.

One last note and that is to watch the DDGC Facebook and Twitter –> for announcements as registration approaches.  Early registrants in particular will want to keep an eye out.

DDGC by the numbers

Just to give an idea of what goes on with the DDGC, we put together this table that breaks down the value the players receive when they participate in our event.

Bear in mind this table doesn’t even take into account everything involved with the DDGC.  For example, the Player Programs that each player receives at check-in aren’t on there, nor are the water and snack stations put on the course for the tournament.

We don’t post this to brag.  We post it because creating it and looking at it gets us fired up to do it again next year, bigger and better.  Watch this space for updates regarding DDGC17 (June 3, 2017), starting with when we will open registration.  Thanks again to everyone who contributed to DDGC16 being one of our best to date.

What a day!

The 2016 DDGC is in the books. The weather was beautiful.  The course was sufficiently challenging.  The players were on their game.  Everything went about as well as could be hoped for.

We had four defending champions do so successfully: Bob Enman in Adv Grandmasters, Jacklyn Bogan in Adv Women, Erica Johnson in Pro Women, and our first three-peat champ, Tyler Grady in Pro Open.  Full results, with unofficial ratings, are posted at PDGA.com.

Also of note, Dave Delisle and Nick Blouin won the Double Dragons round in the morning with a 46 and Kieran Nichols shot the hot round of the Dragon’s Tail Nine with a 25.  There was also an ace on hole 10 by Jamie White, good for $100.

Some numbers…we collected a total of $1905 in gross entry fees from 71 players (+$130 in non-member fees for the PDGA).  Between cash prizes, players packs, CTPs, ace pots, and trophies, we paid out a little over $5000 in total value by the end of the day.  And doesn’t even take into account the player fees to be paid to PDGA and NEFA for sanctioning.  When it’s dribs and drabs over the course of a few months as the event approaches, it doesn’t really seem like much, but seeing it all added together is overwhelming.

And it’s all due not just to the generous sponsors we acquired as the event approached (listed on our sponsor page), but a slew of last minute sponsors who surprised us with prize donations on Saturday morning.  These folks include NEFA for sending a Two Roads Brewing prize pack, Mat Ladroga for donating a cool dyed disc, Bobby Harris for donating a disc, and Kris Gosselin and the Maine Disc Golf Tour for donating some logoed shirts and sweatshirts.  Those prizes were added to the CTP prize packs we already had, putting the value of the day’s CTPs alone over $550.

DDGC16 may be over, but the wheels are already turning and work is starting on DDGC17. We want to build on what worked well, tweak what needs tweaking, and see if we can’t make the next one bigger and better than the last.

Thanks to everyone who attended the event…players, caddies, spotters, photographers, and spectators.  Watch this space for news about DDGC17 as it is available, starting with this:  DDGC17 will happen on June 3, 2017.

Caddy Book

Two weeks from now we’ll know who our champions are.  Hard to believe it’s so close.

In an effort to help our out of town friends get to know the course a bit better, we’ve put together a full color Caddy Book for the course, including details on the Dragon’s Tail Nine course to be played by the top 9 MPO players.  It is viewable in the window below, or it can be downloaded directly from this link (right-click and save).

It should be noted that we will not be printing this to have available to players on tournament weekend.  Instead, a condensed version will be included in the Player Program.  So you’ll get the info handed to you, but it won’t be so large and colorful in the program (and the program will not include the DT9 hole maps).  Enjoy!

Note: Pars listed are the recreational pars used daily by our regular players.
